Hay Mates

Learn • Laugh • Connect

Hay Mates is a relaxed, welcoming day for horse people who want to learn, connect and simply enjoy spending time with their horse and other like-minded people.

Hosted by Harmony Horsemanship in Ross Creek, Hay Mates brings people together through horsemanship – with practical learning, lessons, demonstrations or discussions, and plenty of opportunities to chat, share experiences and have a laugh along the way.

There’s no pressure to compete or perform. Hay Mates is about enjoying our horses, learning more about them and building connections – both with our horses and with each other.

That’s what Learn • Laugh • Connect is all about.

What happens at Hay Mates?

Every Hay Mates day is a little different, with either a horsemanship demonstration or a group discussion as part of each day.

There are opportunities to participate with your own horse through private or shared lessons, or you can come along as a fence sitter and learn by watching, listening and joining the conversation.

Hay Mates also offers exposure days. Bring your horse along, settle them into one of our yards and simply let them relax and take in the environment. There’s no expectation that they have to do anything. It’s an opportunity for them to experience being away from home, see other horses and activity, and learn that a new environment can be somewhere they can relax.

We keep horse numbers small so the day remains relaxed, supportive and personal.

And learning doesn’t all happen in the arena. There’s plenty of time to grab a cuppa, enjoy lunch, talk horses, swap stories and get to know other people from our local horse community.

Lunch, tea and coffee are included.

Who is Hay Mates for?

Hay Mates isn't about how experienced you are, what discipline you ride or whether your horse is perfectly behaved.

It’s for people who enjoy horses and want to learn, laugh and connect.

Bring your horse for a lesson. Bring a young or inexperienced horse for some low-pressure exposure. Come to watch and learn. Or leave your horse at home and spend the day as a fence sitter.

Come with friends or come on your own – part of Hay Mates is about meeting other horse people and making new connections.

You don’t need to be a Harmony Horsemanship client to attend. Everyone is welcome.

A different kind of horse day

There are no ribbons to win and no expectation that you or your horse need to perform.

Hay Mates is about creating an environment where we can ask questions, try things, share ideas, make mistakes, have a laugh and learn more about the horses in front of us.

We want you to head home having learnt something useful, feeling more connected with your horse – and hopefully having made a few new Hay Mates as well.
