Foundation Training
Every horse deserves a solid foundation.
Foundation training isn't just for foals or young horses. Every horse, regardless of their age, breed or previous experience, benefits from a thoughtful, well-established foundation.
Whether you've recently welcomed a retired racehorse, are preparing a youngster for life under saddle, are working through behavioural or training challenges, or simply feel your horse's education has reached a plateau, returning to the foundations can make all the difference.
Going back to the foundations isn't going backwards. It's often the fastest way to move forwards.
Our Approach
At Harmony Horsemanship, we believe every horse deserves to be understood as an individual. Rather than focusing solely on teaching behaviours, we focus on helping horses understand what we're asking, feel safe enough to learn, and develop confidence through positive learning experiences.
Clear communication, patience and building trust by being predictable are at the heart of every training program.
Just as importantly, we work alongside owners to develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to continue their horse's education long after our training sessions have finished.
How We Can Work Together
Every horse and every owner are different, so we offer a range of training options to suit your individual needs.
Training at Harmony Horsemanship
Your horse can stay at Harmony Horsemanship for an individual training program tailored to their needs. This option is ideal for young horses, retired racehorses, horses needing a fresh start, or owners who would like a more intensive approach.
Our purpose-built training facilities have been designed with safety and horse welfare in mind, allowing us to work thoughtfully with everything from unhandled through to well handled horses. The facilities provide a safe, controlled environment where horses can learn at their own pace while building confidence through consistent, predictable experiences.
Owner involvement is not only encouraged but highly recommended throughout the process so you can understand what your horse is learning and confidently continue their education at home.
Mobile Training
Prefer your horse to remain at home? We also provide on-property training throughout Ballarat and the surrounding districts.
Mobile training is an excellent option for owners who prefer not to send their horse away, or for situations where a horse is unable to be caught or loaded onto a float. Working with your horse in their familiar environment often provides valuable insight into their behaviour, allowing training to be tailored not only to the horse, but also to their daily routine, handling environment and your individual goals.
Whether you're introducing foundation skills, working through specific training challenges, or simply wanting guidance with your horse's education, every training program is individually tailored to support both you and your horse.
Lessons & Coaching
Private lessons are tailored to help you and your horse develop strong foundations, both on the ground and under saddle, while building your knowledge, practical skills and confidence.
Lessons are tailored to your individual goals and can be held here at Harmony Horsemanship or at your property. Together, we'll work at a pace that suits both you and your horse, helping you build understanding, strengthen your skills, and create a solid foundation for future learning.
Our goal isn't just to teach you what to do—it's to help you understand why you're doing it, so you have the knowledge and confidence to continue progressing together, whatever your goals may be.
